Now that I have got your undivided attention, I wanted to share a super simple and tasty recipe. Have you ever walked into a bakery and seen these buttery, flaky pastries with chocolate sticking out the sides? Oh I know I have many, many times. They have that slight crisp texture on the outside, and they flake and melt in your mouth. Then you hit the little chocolate layer, and BAM heaven in your mouth.
What if I told you, that you can make them in your home with only 5 ingredients and about 20 minutes? Sounds too good to be true right? Or slightly dangerous to know how to make them haha.
Well you can, and I am letting you in on a big secret for a lot of home chefs, food bloggers, and even professionals. Use pre-made, in the box, puff pastry. You know the stuff you can get in the frozen isle of the grocery store, that is in a box and beside the frozen pie dough. Making homemade puff pastry is quite a process, like it takes pretty much an entire day to make your own. Honestly if you don't have the time to do that, then head on over to the grocery store and buy it. You will get show stopping desserts that taste and look as pretty as the ones behind a glass case in a bakery. Not to rat out a lot of bakeries, but that is what they use a lot of the time is pre-made puff pastry, it saves on time and they can pump out more desserts that way.
Petits Pains Au Chocolat
1 package of frozen puff pastry (2 rolls in a package)
1 tablespoon of water
2 tablespoon of sugar
1 cup of milk and dark chocolate chunks
Take puff pastry out of the freezer and allow to defrost for 2 hours before using.
Preheat oven to 400F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
Take the egg and with a fork scramble it up, add water and mix together. This forms a egg wash.
Roll out the puff pastry, cut each roll into 6 equal portions.
Place around 1 tablespoon of chocolate pieces on one end of the pastry dough. Start rolling the dough from the end with the chocolate over to the end with no chocolate. Place seam side down on the parchment lined baking sheet. Repeat with all the squares.
Take your egg wash and brush the tops of the pastry, then sprinkle some sugar on top of each one.
Place in the oven and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, when they have puffed up and are a nice golden brown and the centers are cooked then then are done.
Remove from the oven and allow to cool for 10 minutes. Seriously don't bite into them right away hot chocolate is like lava flowing into your mouth! Be patient your mouth will thank you,
When cooled, enjoy one... or two... or three, no one will judge or tell on you!
See! That was super fast and simple, but they look pretty don't they! I love how puff pastry looks when it well... puffs haha. It just is beautiful and tastes amazing! You could add more chocolate if you wanted or even add white chocolate in the mix.
