Are there any recipes that take you back to childhood? I know I speak for a lot of Canadians when I say that, Puffed Wheat Squares screams a Canadian childhood. My Grandma and Mom would make these every so often, and they never lasted long. What is hard to believe is that I actually have never made them the whole time I have been married! Is that not just ridiculous! We are heading off to go camping for the next few days tomorrow, I thought I would make these yummy squares and bring them along. Of course the kiddos had to sneak one before I packed them into a bag... I might have ate one myself. Do you have a favourite snack to bring to camping that isn't smores? Puffed Wheat Squares Ingredients: 1/4 cup of salted butter 1/2 cup of corn syrup or honey 1 cup of packed brown sugar 1/4 cup of cocoa powder pinch of salt 1 teaspoon of pure vanilla extract 8 cups of puffed wheat cereal Directions: Grab a large bowl and place the puffed wheat inside. In a medium sized saucepan, combine butter, corn syrup of honey, cocoa powder and salt. Stir together, cook on a medium heat and continue stirring. Bring the sauce to a boil, continuing to stir until smooth. Remove from the heat and then stir in the vanilla extract. Pour the sauce onto the puffed wheat, with a rubber spatula coat the sauce onto the puffed wheat by stirring gently. Once all coated, press into a 9 by 13 inch glass pan. You can either refrigerate until set or place on the counter. Once it has set, cut into equal squares up to 20 pieces. Hopefully everyone is having a great week. I know over here we have enjoyed the Stampede and are excited for the rest of the summer! We got a little bit of rain here in Alberta, but I feel like it is more needed in BC right now. Pray for rain for them! Happy Baking! Puffed Wheat Squares
