Wild Boar Burger

Happy Labour Day everyone! Today we are currently enjoying watching the Labour Day Classic, where the Calgary Stampeders and the Edmonton Eskimos battle it out in the battle of Alberta for the Canadian Football League. 

I promised to share with your what we made from our collection of yummy goods from the Millarville Farmers Market on Saturday. We decided to try the wild boar patties and make an amazing and unique burger, that we also topped with other things that we grabbed from the market.

Wild Boar Burger

Ingredients:


4 - 150 gram wild boar burger patties
2 tablespoons of salt
2 tablespoons of pepper
2 tablespoons of paprika
4 hamburger buns
4 large slices of peppercorn Gouda cheese
4 large tomato slices
4 large pieces of lettuce
1/2 cup of spicy mango BBQ sauce
1 cup of mayonnaise 

Directions:

In a medium sized bowl, add the mango BBQ sauce and mayo. Mix together with a whisk, and place in the fridge until it is time to assemble the burgers.

In a small bowl add the seasoning (salt, paprika, and pepper) and mix them together. Remove the frozen wild boar patties from the freezer, light up your BBQ and allow it to be heated to a medium level for heat. Rub the seasonings all over the patties, on both sides. Cook the patties until no longer raw, and they have nice grill marks on both sides. Add the cheese slices on during the last minute of cooking.

Cut the burger buns in half, toast them in the oven on a baking sheet for 4 minutes. This allows the surface to be able to hold the sauce better and to not become soggy. Remove once they are slightly toasted.

To assemble, add 1 tablespoon of sauce onto the inside of the bun, place the patty on the base bun, then add tomatoes and lettuce. Serve with a side of home made potato chips.

Wild Boar Burgers

We used the beautiful purple potatoes that we got from the farmers market to make home made potato chips. I have written a post before for making your own chips at home. I strongly suggest going and finding some purple potatoes because they make the most pretty chips in the world! The colour they gave off after being fried was incredible as well. I would highly recommend, serving on the side of the chips some of the mango BBQ mayo that you put on the burgers. It was a great dipping sauce for the chips.

All in all we had a great time at the market, and we had a great time sinking our teeth into the bounty that we bought.

Interesting, do they mix anything in with the wild boar?

Just salt, water and spices. The only meat in it is the wild boar.

What a delicious looking burger...I think we have plenty more burger days ahead of us before the snow flies!
You know, I always mean to go the Millarville market but we never get up early enough and there's always something to do on Saturdays.
Great chips, too! Love the colour!

I think we do too :) It is quite the spread of vendors, you should go! The potatoes were so pretty, then I sliced them and was excited about the colour, then when fried them... it was like POW with the colour! I love colourful veggies!

Wild boar- didn't even know they had that at Millarville! I will have to try it. I love the purple potato chips- so bright and cheery!

They do! There was the big spread of coolers in front of a truck and it is the Meadow Creek Sausage & Meat Ltd. They had everything there! I bought a big beautiful Brisket that I can't wait to cook as well. They also had chickens the size of turkeys!
